HORTATORY EXPOSITION TEXT : Pengertian, Struktur, Fungsi Sosial, Unsur Kebahasaan dan Contoh Text Serta Pembahasanya.

A. Pengertian Hortatory Exposition Text

Hortatory exposition text is a text to persuade the reader or the listener that something should or should not be the case. Dengan kata lain, Hortatory Exposition adalah sebuah teks yang menjelaskan suatu teori atau masalah yang bertujuan untuk mempengaruhi pembaca atau sipendengar. Di dalamnya, penulis menyertakan beberapa pendapat mengenai hal tertentu untuk memperkuat ide pokok sipenulis.

B. Generic Stucture / Struktur Umum

1. Thesis : Bagian ini berisikan tentang pengenalan ide pokok yang ingin disampaikan penulis tentang kejadian yang akan angkat.

2.  Argument : berisi pendapat-pendapat/ argumen yang mendukung ide pokok penulis.

3.  Recommendation/Conclusion : bagian ini berisi rekomendasi atau saran dari sang penulis terhadap masalah yang menjadi tema tulisan dan juga berfungsi untuk meyakinkan si pembaca terhadap sudut pandang sipenulis.

C. Purpose /Fungsi Sosial

To persuade the reader or the listener that something should or should not be the case. (Untuk membujuk para pembaca/pendengar bahwa sesuatu harus atau tidak harus dilakukan). 

D. Language Features / Unsur Kebahasaan

- Menggunakan simple present tense

- Banyak menggunakan conjunction (kata penghubung) seperti because of, so, therefore, the reason, dan lain-lain.

- Biasanya Menggunakan kata-kata yang mengandung sebab akibat/ cause-effect.

- Menggunakan modal verb. Misalnya : should, can, etc.

- Menggunakan thinking verb. Contohnya : believe.

- Isinya lebih fokus untuk penulis yang telah mengangkat  isu/kejadian tersebut.

E. Contoh Hortatory Exposition Text

Music is Fun for Learning English

         Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to your English progress. Some underlying reason can be drawn to support the idea why we use songs in language learning.

        Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of the last song we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be both enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-and-long term memory.

    Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of repetition, which is just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that they are effective makes them many times more motivating than other text. Although usually simple, some songs can be quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed in the same way as any other literary sample.

      Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most pop songs and probably many other types don’t have precise people, place or time reference.

In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage harmony within oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in sustaining culture, religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution.

      Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such as studying grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension, translating songs, learning vocabulary, spelling and culture.

        From the elaboration above, it can be suggested that learning through music and songs, learning English can be enjoyable and fun.

F. Pembahasan Generic Structure Untuk Text diatas :

• Thesis : Bagian ini berisikan tentang pengenalan ide pokok yang ingin disampaikan penulis tentang kejadian yang akan angkat. Dalam teks tersebut, bahwa ide yang diangkat sipenulis adalah tentang : We can use music/songs for learning English.

• Argument : berisi pendapat-pendapat/ argumen yang mendukung ide pokok penulis. Dalam teks tersebut, Yaitu :

a. songs work on our short-and-long term memory.

b. songs in general also use simple conversational language

• Recommendation : Berisi rekomendasi atau saran dari sang penulis. Dari teks diatas, bahwa yang menjadi rekomendasi sipenulis adalah : It can be suggested that learning through music and songs, learning English can be enjoyable and fun. berisi rekomendasi atau saran dari sang penulis.
