The substitution of “West” in our name replacing “California” is the result of an agreement we reached with California Gardening Association, following a protest over the original use of “California” in our name. We hope this does not create any confusion among our loyal customers. Albert Einstein was born near the end of the 1800s in Ulf, Germany. He graduated from the University of Zurich in Switzerland at age 26. That was also when he did his famous work in physics. Fourteen years later he won the Nobel Prize for Physics.

For the next ten years he lived in Germany and traveled a lot to talk to other scientists. Then in the early 1930s he had to leave Germany because of Hitler and the Nazi party. He moved to the United States. From that time until his death he lived in Princeton, New Jersey. He died at the age of 74.

The National Monument, or “Monas”, as it is popularly called, is one of the monuments built during the Sukarno era of fierce nationalism, Monas is famous among Indonesia people as the highest historic building in Jakarta. It was established to commemorate Indonesia’s struggle for independence from the Dutch colonialism. Since it was opened to the public, this National Monument has become one of the popular tourist destinations in Indonesia.

Monas is a tower with a height of 132 meters. The building has as its special characteristic the flame shape, covered with gold foil, that you can see on the top of the tower. If visitors go down to the base of the tower,they will see a museum measuring 80 x 80 meters. Ruang Kemerdekaan is in the cup part of Monas. Actually, it is an amphitheater within this building. Visitors can also use the elevator to access the top platform and the Flame of Independence.

Monas is open to public every day. You can visit to remember the struggle of Indonesian heroes against colonialism and learn about Indonesia history. You will see many kinds of historical buildings and other unique inheritance. By visiting historical buildings, we will keep this nation secure as one of great nations of the world.
